Nurse practitioner and endorsed midwife prescribing: consultation survey live
Page last updated: 1 March 2024
The Department of Health and Aged Care (the Department) is seeking input from health professionals and consumers on prescribing by nurse practitioners and endorsed midwifes through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). The consultation survey is now available on the Office of Health Technology Assessment Consultation Hub.
The Department is undertaking a review for consideration by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) of medicines that may be suitable for prescribing by nurse practitioners and endorsed midwives on the PBS. The purpose of this consultation survey is to collect data to inform:
- what medicines are frequently prescribed privately (i.e. non-PBS) by these prescriber types that are PBS-listed for the intended purpose, but are otherwise restricted to other prescriber types; and
- the settings in which this is occurring.
The findings of this consultation survey, together with findings from targeted consultation with stakeholder groups, will be considered by the PBAC at a future meeting. Responses to this consultation survey will be accepted up to 23:30 AEDT on Monday, 1 April 2024.
