Serious Shortages Substitution Notice (SSSN)
Page last updated: 14 May 2020
Where a SSSN has been issued by the Therapeutic Goods Administration and supported by the relevant state or territory regulations, a pharmacist may substitute medicines in accordance with the SSSN.
Medicines substituted under a SSSN will not be subsidised by the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme at this time.
If a PBS subsidised medicine is required, the pharmacist will need to speak to the prescriber and obtain a new script in accordance with the PBS regulations.
