Increased prices to consumers for 85 brands of Medicine from 1 August 2012

The suppliers of 85 brands of pharmaceutical items subsidised through the PBS imposed a surcharge change which took effect on 1 August 2012. These charges are imposed by and paid to, the pharmaceutical company and not the Australian Government.
The additional charge payable for 75 brands will increase by less than $2.00;
The additional charge payable for 9 brands will increase by between $2.00 to $5.00;
The additional charge payable for 1 brand will increase by $7.04.
The average increase is approximately $1.31. These are not new price premiums, but increases to existing premiums.
The Minister for Health has issued a media statement concerning this action by some suppliers of PBS medicines.
