The recovery of fees associated with the evaluation and listing of medicines, vaccines and other products or services on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and National Immunisation Program (NIP) commenced on 1 January 2010.
The prescribing regulations that underpin PBS and NIP cost recovery are the National Health (Pharmaceutical and Vaccines—Cost Recovery) Regulations 2009. Part 4.7 of these regulations, provides for the annual indexation of fees based on increases in the Consumer Price Index. The first indexation adjustment of these fees in accordance with the Regulations will take place on 1 July 2012.
