The Report of the Compliance to Medicines Working Group is now available for public
consultation. All interested stakeholders are invited to submit written comments by
31 October 2010.
The Compliance to Medicines Working Group (CMWG) was established at the request of
the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee (PBAC) in December 2008. The PBAC
requested that the working group gather information from experts and published literature
on methods for evaluating and interpreting evidence used to support claims that combination
products improve consumer compliance and health outcomes. The PBAC also sought guidance
on the factors that influence consumer compliance with PBS medicines. An understanding
of why consumers are not fully compliant with their drug regimens is important for
achieving optimal clinical outcomes, reducing community burden of disease and ensuring
the most cost effective use of health resources. The CMWG had 14 members, including
representatives of the pharmaceutical industry, researchers, clinicians, consumers,
DUSC and PBAC. Members are listed in Appendix 1 of the Report.
A Consumer Fact Sheet on the Compliance to Medicines Working Group Report is also available.
