Cost Recovery for evaluation and listing on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) & National Immunisation Program (NIP)
The Department of Health and Ageing is implementing Cost Recovery, via fees for services provided by the Commonwealth, in relation to listing medicines, vaccines and other products, or services, on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) and the National Immunisation Program (NIP). This measure was announced by the Government in the 2008-09 Budget.
Information Sessions for the pharmaceutical industry will be held in both Sydney and Melbourne in mid June 2008 to provide information on the fees and processes that will apply. Pharmaceutical companies will be advised shortly of further details on the information sessions.
The evaluation processes by PBAC and its sub-committees will not change as a result of the introduction of fees for service. The PBAC remains an essential and valued expert body and its continued independence will not be compromised by cost recovery arrangements.
Consultation with industry is an important aspect of PBS Cost Recovery and this will include avenues for comment, complaints handling, ongoing monitoring and periodic reviews.
A new e-mail address - (PBSCostRecovery@Health.gov.au) has been created to facilitate ongoing communications relating to PBS Cost Recovery
